Videoke Quickie

Me and my GF went out to have dinner last night as I was going to be buried neck-deep in  projects and requirements of my masteral subjects for the rest of the week. I remember while talking during my lunch break, I absent-mindedly suggested we go to that videoke place at Autoshop compound to work out our vocal chords. hon: *smiles* really?! sige sige!

So around 8.30pm we went to Autoshop compound and proceeded to rent a room…a videoke room…a little reminder for my green-minded friends and fiends. Rent was @ P100/Hour, not bad for an hour of nonstop wailing session. ‘Pero dapat paspas ang turnover, walay dead air. ahihihi…’ I suggested to my boo. When we entered room no.1 (our designated room) the first thing we heard was the guys and gals at room no.2...’eeeeeek. abi nako videokehan ni, naa man lagi gi-ihaw sa pikas room?’ I’m not kidding here, It really sounded like Sarah Geronimo was being slaughtered in the other room with their grotesque rendition of “To Love You More”. hahah…anyway, the minutes are counting, we had to start.

Song 1: Ulan by Cueshe - OK, so I sang cueshe…so blow me. hehehe…It was the first song that I recognized so might as well fire things up with this song. Score: 98

Song 2: Forgot the title of the song. - It was a wrong selection so we stopped it.

Song 3: Crazy for You by Madonna - Honey managed to give the song justice even if she was  nervous. Nyak, nerbiyos ka na kita ra man duha diri nie? ahihih... Score: 84

Song 4: Hanggang Kailan by Orange and Lemons - I love this song, I dig the new wave-ish, Morissey-like sound of the song. Pulled it off without a hitch. with matching piyong-piyong pa! Score: 99

Matay kulang sa gasolina  da…presses buzzer *bzzzzzz* waiter enters the room after a few minutes…ME: bro, duha ka sanmig light, baso, ice og chi..aw..tissue diay. *wink*

Song 5: The Day You said Goodnight by Hale - Being somewhat a musical snob, I was a late bloomer in liking this song. We used to call this song Basurero’s Theme. Why? Sing this  line to the tune of the song’s chorus.:P Tubig…mangayo kog tubig…is all that I need, It’s all that I need this time. ahihihi…Score: 98

Song 6: How did you know by Chiquie Pineda - Nicely executed, maybe she was thinking of the movie that had this song as an OST to deliver the right emotion. Hon, get the air from the stomach, para mas buo ang labas. I reminded. She has a beautiful voice in fairness, she just needs to unleash it.

Song 7: I love you goodbye by Nina - OMG, mao na ang pagkanta nie! Wooohoo! She nailed it, from top to bottom, left to right. I almost jumped up and down the couch like freakin’ Tom Cruise on Oprah because of glee. I just hope that song was’nt for me. heheh…Score: 95

Song 8: Kissing a Fool by George Michael - I’ve always liked this song because of it’s laid back sound and jazzy feel. But when I sing this during drink-oke sessions with my barkadas, they would stare at me in disbelief as if I was an old geezer. mag pitok-pitok ra biya gyud ang mga mata, wala kasabot sa kanta. gi-ahak…Score 98

Song 9: Maling Akala by Eraserheads - maling akala gyud, pirting taasa. Stop. Dammit, I lost a turn.

Song 10: Part of your world - Yey! She reminded me of my role during our Christmas Party last year. Nice. I can still recall the the fins, the makeup, the bra…OMG *breaks down…months of therapy down the drain* Score: 89

Song 11: Anything for You by Gloria Estefan - The kamikaze group of room no. 2 managed to play the song first…anyhoot, no problem here. Blow them away hon! Bwhahaah… Score 93

Song 12: High  by The Speaks - yap, it was high alright. litson. Still I managed to finish the song eventhough I was screwing around with the verses a bit. dili pa kaayo familiar ang tono sa verse eh…I just poured everything during the chorus, Time won’t flow, everyone knows, When the pain fades away, And dreams won’t die, with tears in our eyes, You’ve got to hold your head up high….yei ~yei,hold your head up high….yei~yei~ Score: 99

Song 13: Queen of Holywood by The Corrs - She screwed up the song…in a sexy way. Peace hon..:P She could’nt pull of the signature yoddle of Andrea in the yeah..*insert unique yoddle here* yeah…part of the songs. Anyway, it was her experimental song of the night. We all have those songs right? Score: 88

Song 14: Careless Whisper by George Michael - Never got a chance to sing the song. time na eh, suya. Just as I was preparing for my song-ala-strip routine. ahihihi….too bad hon, next time nlang.

Song 15: Just Once by James Ingram - In all my videoke life, I never got to sing this song…Someone always manages to select the song before I could even think of singing it. Is it too much to ask if I could sing it just once….can we figure out what we keep doing wrong… Tuara. Mismo! hahaha

I never thought I could have that much fun in an hour and 2 bottles of beer (1 and 1/2 actually). Can’t wait to do it again.
