Dubbed as Urban
September 21, 2006I was surfing my suking PS website, lookin’ at the Audio threads for something worthwhile to download (just to make it clear
) when I chanced upon an Urban Dub thread, stating that they managed to beat Rivermaya, Eraserheads etc on Album of the year for 2005. That alone got my attention and proceeded to download the album EMBRACE.
Upon listening to the first few tracks, I was immediately blown away…they did’nt sound like any local band at all! They reminded me so much of Smashing Pumpkins with the emo themed songs, the not so verse-chorus-verse arrangement, the band members (3 guys-1 girl playing bass, vocals do guitars etc), even the sound formula (drums dominate the songs, song dynamics, effects driven guitars). Now, I’m not saying that they are SP copycats alright, they still are unique in more ways than I care to describe and I can attest that as i’ve scrutinized both bands.
To be continued…(Uwian na!
Still have to go to the gym and ray’s parteh! woot!)
Mayday! Mayday!
September 16, 2006I’ve got 3 presentations in my masteral class today and a bad case of sinusitis. Things does not bode well for me….
5 hours to go and counting…
To Blog or not to Blog
September 15, 2006….that is not a question…(it’s a phrase you moron)
A friend of mine asked about the site where I put my ‘mountain pics’ as he called it, I gave him my yahoo photos page and he replied ‘dili na mao…, kadtong naay i.am. na site.’ WTF is he talking about?! hmm…lemme think…oh he must’ve meant my blog (which has been inactive for 4 month I think.)
So, here I am now, i re-read some of my entries and they were quite funny IMO or I’m just plain dumb to laugh at my own mishaps and stories. I hope to write again and share a little bit of myself. I have 4 months of making up to do. So do check my site every now and then.

Geektionary
May 4, 2006Don’t you just get tired of answering the same questions about geeknology? I do…. So when I stumbled upon this geektionary, I was compelled to post it here not just so when someone asks about geekstuff, I can say ‘visit anomaly.i.ph’ but also to refresh my mind on some terminologies that I tend to forget.
I warn you, some of these terms can be a mouthfull.
Access Time: The amount of time something takes to find a piece of information and allow it to be used by other devices.
ACR: Audio Communications Riser - a slot that is only used by large OEMs to add cheap devices to their computers. Since ACR devices are software based, they often times sap a lot of CPU resources.
ADSL: Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - Like ISDN, ADSL uses standard phone lines to deliver high-speed data communications. But while ISDN’s transmission speed is limited to 64 kbps, ADSL technology can deliver upstream (from the user) speeds of 640 kbps and downstream (to the user) speeds of more than 6 mbps. Even better, ADSL uses the portion of a phone line’s bandwidth not utilized by voice, allowing for simultaneous voice and data transmission.
AGP: Accelerated Graphics Port - Brown slot located nearest to the processor on most motherboards. AGP ports are used exclusivly for graphics cards and are set back and keyed differently so that other expansion cards will not fit in them.
AMR: Audio Modem Riser - like the ACR, AMR’s are extremely low cost software devices that can do a host of functions. Since they are software based, they use quite a bit of CPU resources.
Anti Alaising: The method in which jagged lines in 3d enviroments (easily seen in the horizon of games) are removed and smoothed out for a picture that is easier on the eyes.
API: Application Program Interface - The API is a set of functions that programmers use to develop software for specific purposes or to interface with other software. For example, the windows api allows programmers to develop software for windows. The api for a graphics suite would allow programmers to develop software for that graphics suite.
ASCII: American Standard Code for Information Interchange - The ASCII set of 128 characters includes letters, numbers, punctuation, and control codes (such as a character that marks the end of a line). Each letter or other character is represented by a number: an uppercase A, for example, is the number 65, and a lowercase z is the number 122. Most operating systems use the ASCII standard, except for Windows NT, which uses the suitably larger and newer Unicode standard.
Asic: Application Specific Integrated Circuit - ASIC is a custom microchip designed for a specific application.
AT Power connector: Mother Board Connects for an AT power supply.
ATX Power Connector: ATX - AT Extended form factor. Referrs to a standard for motherboard configuration and layout called the ATX Motherboard Specification. The AtX power connector replaced the older standard and allows the power supply to be turned on or off by the computer itself, rather than just by a physical switch.
Backup: A duplicate copy of files or an entire hard drive. A backup of your important files should be done regularly.
4-day vacation marathon

Will post pics and update you on things later. Right now, I have to get some shut eye, just traveled almost 400 Kms. Chiao!
What’s been cookin’
April 26, 2006It’s been a while since I posted in this blog. I guess I was too busy living my life, so I forgot to write about it.
Anyway, let me update you on whats been happening, and what is bound to happen.
- We (my group and I) managed to pass the defense of Organization of Databases after a tremendous amount of sacrifice and pain. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
- After promising myself that I was gonna spend my whole summer “study-free”, I found myself enrolling for summer classes. Ngano? UIC is planning to increase it’s fees by 10% by next semester and I have to avail of the lower rates as much as I can. yes, it sucks… To think that I still owe the school 5G’s for last sem’s fees. haayzzz….life…
- Call me a late bloomer or whatever, I recently got addicted to DOTA (Defense of the Ancients) during the holidays although I haven’t played in cafes or such, we simply hook up through hamachi for our dose of multi-player carnage.
- We’re off to Cagayan de Oro for the weekend to get a taste of what rafting through wild rapids with grades 1 to 3 would feel. wahooooo! Many thanks to Ma’am Mar for spear heading this adventure and also to PPA, our office for supporting us all the way. CDO here we come!
A ray of light, A glimmer of hope
April 10, 2006After weeks of painstaking work on the system documentation and application for our OrdDB subject, we have finally managed to create a working program. working pa lang, not a working, error/bug free program.
We then consulted Mr. John Q. Ruero, (yes sir, I stand corrected
) last night for initial testing and comments. There were a lot of errors and lapses specifically on error-trapping of entry fields and referential integrity of related databases. A few design glitches were also discovered, but all can be solved, in time…and time is one thing that we don’t have. (more…)
The End is the Beginning is the End
April 2, 2006OrgDB defense today….Null sleep, caffeinated, irritated, one step from insanity.
…may God have mercy on our souls…

Videoke Quickie
March 29, 2006Me and my GF went out to have dinner last night as I was going to be buried neck-deep in projects and requirements of my masteral subjects for the rest of the week. I remember while talking during my lunch break, I absent-mindedly suggested we go to that videoke place at Autoshop compound to work out our vocal chords. hon: *smiles* really?! sige sige!
So around 8.30pm we went to Autoshop compound and proceeded to rent a room…a videoke room…a little reminder for my green-minded friends and fiends.
Rent was @ P100/Hour, not bad for an hour of nonstop wailing session. ‘Pero dapat paspas ang turnover, walay dead air. ahihihi…’ I suggested to my boo. When we entered room no.1 (our designated room) the first thing we heard was the guys and gals at room no.2...’eeeeeek. abi nako videokehan ni, naa man lagi gi-ihaw sa pikas room?’ I’m not kidding here, It really sounded like Sarah Geronimo was being slaughtered in the other room with their grotesque rendition of “To Love You More”. hahah…anyway, the minutes are counting, we had to start. “Fcuk You (An Ode To No One)”
March 24, 2006
I’m never coming back
I’m never giving in
I’ll never be the shine in your spit
I disconnect the act
I disconnect the dots
I disconnect the me in me
And you’re mistaken, It’s you that’s faking
Living and breathing and dying too
This message is for anyoine who dares to hear a fool
You can’t bring me back, you can’t bring me back
Cause I give it all back to you
Thru sacred alleys, the living wrecks
Wreak their havoc upon this world
The disenchanted, the romantics,
The body and face and soul of you is gone down that deep black hole
Destroy the mind-destroy the body-but you cannot destroy the heart
And you, you make me so I need to disconnect
And you make it so real
I don’t need your love to disconnect
To runaround kids in get-go cars
With vaseline afterbirths and neon coughs
Galaxies full of nobodies
Giving us the farewell runarounds
I took a virgin mary axe to his sweet baby jane,
lost my innocence to a no good girl, scratch my
face with anvil hands, and coil my tongue around a bumblebee mouth
And I give it all back to you
No way, I don’t need it, I don’t need your love to disconnect
And you make it, so real, I don’t need your love to disconnect
No way to disconnect
And you make it so real
I don’t need your love to disconnect
No way to disconnect
I’ve no time to write, so I might as well post the lyrics of this song from The Smashing Pumpkins coz it’s pretty close to what I feel right now.
A streetcar named Gwen
March 18, 2006Our story began when my savings reached a hundred grand and not wanting to let it sleep in the bank, i decided to buy my first car…not a family-owned conjugal property car, but a me-myself-I owned car. I’ve always been frustated before because some relatives(including the car owner, my pop
) were raising their eyebrows upon learning that I was using the family car whenever I went out for a ‘few’ drinks and some fun. (read: gimik). Aside from that reason, I’ve always liked cars.
I planned on buying a KIA CD5 or Pride since last year because I’ve heard good things about it. How the parts are so affordable, how gas consumption is minimal, how it is not a hot car for thieves etc…However, one must also deal with the fact that majority of KIAs are used as taxis, unlike honda motors that lets an owner sign a contract that the vehicle will not be used as a public utility vehicle. So the cool factor is practically null. SO WHAT!! As I pondered on the thought of not being cool.
So after weeks of searching and looking at atleast 7 prospects, my pop got a tip from a friend that a kia avella was displayed at Macro with an asking price of 125T and it might suit my given specs and budgetary constraints. Pop went the next day to check the car (he was my primary inspector as I was stuck at the office) and texted me that I might like this car. So the next day we scheduled a meet at victoria w/ the seller and my uncle nestor(the family mechanic/driver guru).
To be continued…
Smashing the Pumpkins
March 17, 2006
I can still remember the details of hearing the bands name for the first time.
GINGIN: bai, kadungog naka og smashing pumpkins?
ME: ha? kinsa na sila? Paluya nila og pangalan oi?!
I assumed that the band’s sound would suck because their name did’nt sound cool. I then borrowed a copy the Siamese Dream album from GINGIN and upon seeing the cover, I thought…man, the album designer must be gay…who in the right mind would put an image of two kids smiling on a rock album? It would’ve been understandable if it was two sexy ladies holding/riding an *insert something that interests teens here* object. But believing that one must try/hear anything once, I slapped it in a cassette player (yep, cd was still elite that time and I was not) and started to listen to the album.
hell week
March 14, 2006

The book that strikes fear into the hearts of my classmates and myself.
ohh sir, why do you make us suffer so… If I remember correctly, orgDB is supposed to be 3 units, not 30. Although the knowledge we gain is invaluable, do remember that we also have what we call ‘lives’ outside database systems, we need to eat our lunch at 12 noon or earlier not 1.30pm onwards, and we consider sundays as rest day.
I have constructed a list to help me get by this week. I hope I can organize my week to accomplish all these tasks.
Things to accomplish
1. study for the upcoming exam in Organization of Databases…Ruero: coverage you say? …is cover to cover. bwahahaha (ok, so I added the devilish laugh) US: gasp God help me…faints
2. prepare for our project defense on same class.
3. report on Red-Black Trees due this coming saturday at Discrete Structures class.
4. deploy the Personnel Information System software to 60 PCs.
5. Insert other necessary tasks here
Sometimes I can’t help but think of letting go of all these worries and to just stop and re-assess my life.
Where did I come from? Where am I going? How will I become the man that I ought to be?
but doing that would be too GAY…lol
So, bring it on MOFO! Bring on the pain! Let’s dance….
I’ll get to next week somehow. I’ll let you know if I do.
Thus, my hell week has begun…
